Bloated new renewable installation figures may affect future of payment scheme

Despite Ofgem figures showing a surge in numbers of household and businesses installing renewable energy technologies, there are warnings that an inaccurate total of new installations may lead to a government reassessment of payments.
Figures stating that installations rose to 4,000 in August may be bloated by up to 1,500 pre-existing systems such as turbines and solar panels which have transferred from the Renewable Obligations Scheme.
Charles Hendry, the government Energy Minister has hinted that the apparent ‘gold rush’ into the feed-in tariff scheme could lead to some cut backs. Industry insiders have called for clarification of the figures before any changes to the system are made.
