Since the implementation of the Kyoto protocol, the UK Government has been committed to meeting EU emissions targets, and as a result a range of environmental legislation has been introduced to ensure that organisations prioritise environmental performance. The Energy Performance in Buildings Directive was implemented in the United Kingdom to 'promote the improvement of energy performance of buildings within the EU'.
