British Stockpile of Nuclear Fuel

Britain has a large stockpile of plutonium and uranium that could power three nuclear reactors for 60 years. The stockpile could be converted into mixed oxide fuel (MOX) which could then be burnt in the new reactors planned for Britain’s new nuclear fleet, the cost to convert the fuel into MOX would cost up to £2 billion, the National Nuclear Laboratory has suggested that recycling the fuel would save £2 billion on safe disposal and would avoid the generation of 0.5 billion tons of CO2.
