Market Background
- The electricity market fully opened in August 2004 – however, the market had been “closed” as the public system (EDP) had been heavily subsidized and other players on the Portuguese market such as Iberdrola or Endesa could not previously compete against the national supplier EDP.
- The situation changed in January 2009 as the Portuguese regulator ERSE increased the electricity tariffs, which makes supplier switching more interesting.
- In the course of 2009, new Spanish suppliers have constantly gained more market share as customers started making use of the market liberalization.
- The regulated electricity tariffs are set to disappear at the end of 2010 and as a result of that all customers will have be in the liberalized market.
With our extensive experience of energy purchasing throughout Europe, Inenco can ensure that your organisation benefits from the cheaper tariffs made available by the liberalisation of the Portuguese energy market.
