Client:

McVitie’s have been baking the Digestive biscuit for over 100 years and it continues to be a firm favourite, outselling most other brands in its market.

Objective:

Originally, Inenco's relationship with McVities was to install, fund and manage the first 1MW gas-turbine powered CHP plant in the UK.

Result:

Energy cost savings in excess of £3 million have been achieved through Inenco's partnership approach with McVities.

Details:

Inenco have provided support to McVitie’s for nearly 20 years, and working in partnership have developed a range of innovative energy solutions, minimising costs and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation.

  • Inenco invested £1 million in a 1MW gas turbine Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant and other energy conservation initiatives, as part of a contract energy management package.

  • We took part in a joint venture with McVities to install a 1MW engine based CHP plant at another site.

  • Inenco have since driven the design and installation of a comprehensive Building Energy Management System, improving the accuracy of monitoring energy used as well as the minimising costs by automating process heating control.

  • We have also assisted McVitie's in putting together an Integrated Pollution Prevention Control (IPPC) permit application, providing ongoing support to ensure continued compliance.
These initiatives, together with many other smaller projects, have delivered energy savings in excess of £3 million.

In addition to these substantial financial benefits, McVitie's have benefited from the replacement of outdated equipment with the latest technology, reduced carbon emissions and ongoing compliance with energy and environmental legislation.
