Client: Formed in the USA in 1986, Staples is the world's largest office supply retail store chain, with over 85 UK stores and continued growth at the rate of 5 new sites per annum. Objective: Staples wanted to more effectively manage their electricity and gas requirements, specifically; to streamline the multitude of contracts that were in place with several suppliers and to reduce overheads in bill processing. As a result, Staples decided to outsource their energy procurement and invoice processing to Inenco. Result: Inenco consolidated Staples' supply requirements and negotiated group agreements with their suppliers increasing control over supplier management. Furthermore, Electricity and gas cost savings in excess of £500,000 per annum were identified and recovered. Details With sites across the UK and expansion year-on-year, Staples were finding it hard to manage their electricity and gas requirements. There were a multitude of contracts in place with several suppliers and verification of invoices was proving difficult. To improve the situation, Staples decided to outsource their energy procurement and invoice processing to Inenco.
All invoices were verified on a monthly basis by Inenco, with an electronic interface to Staples in-house systems, allowing the company to directly access their utility invoices at all times. Inenco's systems resulted in savings in excess of £500,000 and Staples having a much tighter control over their energy expenditure. New sites benefited from group discounts straight away and prices were regularly reviewed, ensuring that the company consistently had the best deal available. The initial brief was expanded to include the negotiation of group meter operator agreements, achieving further savings. |
