Market Background

  • The electricity market fully opened in August 2004 – however, the market has been “closed” as the public system (EDP) has been heavily subsidized and other players on the Portuguese market such as Iberdrola or Endesa can not compete against the national supplier EDP.

  • The liberalized electricity market accounts for just about 2%, with the monopoly EDP holding a 90+% market share

  • In January 2009, the Portuguese regulator ERSE increased the electricity tariffs, which makes supplier switching more interesting.

With our extensive experience of energy purchasing throughout Europe, Inenco can ensure that your organisation benefits from the cheaper tariffs made available by the liberalisation of the Portuguese energy market.
