Nuffield Hospitals

back to case studies

Client:

With 43 hospitals in England and one in Scotland, Nuffield Hospitals has grown to become the largest network of not-for-profit, independent hospitals in the UK.

Objective:

Nuffield wanted to optimise their electricity and gas supply arrangements to lower their costs

Result:
Annual cost savings of £100,000 on electricity and gas.

Details:
Nuffield were reviewing the market for utility advisors and, impressed by our approach, an agreement was awarded to include to outsource invoice processing and contract negotiation to Inenco.

  • Inenco conducted a thorough review of Nuffield’s electricity and gas supply arrangements

  • By grouping sites together, we enabled Nuffield to achieve competitive prices and simplify the administrative process

  • More accurate utility budgeting was introduced, significantly improving the management of energy expenditure

  • Moving away from the 'E-Auctions' carried out by previous consultants, Inenco switched Nuffield's energy procurement strategy to a 'traditional' tendering process

  • 'Traditional' contract tenders attract more bids from suppliers than 'E-Auctions', leading to increased competition and as a result lower prices.

Inenco's knowledge of market conditions enabled us to negotiate supply contracts when prices were low, achieving further savings.

By switching to a 'traditional' tendering process, and negotiating electricity supply agreements when the market was low, Nuffield’s terms are now more than 20% below current rates, resulting in ongoing savings of over £100,000 per annum.
