back to case studies

Client:

West Ferry Printers are one of the largest newspaper printers in Europe, producing around 27 million papers each week, including leading UK titles such as The Telegraph, The Financial Times, The Guardian and The Express.

Objective:

Our objective was to maximise the benefit of the Climate Change Agreement to Westferry Printers and manage the ongoing legal requirements of the agreement.

Result:

Inenco achieved a Climate Change Levy (CCL) discount of over £84,000 per annum, as well as quantifiable energy savings of £180,000 per annum; corresponding to reduced carbon emissions of 3,079 tonnes each year.

Details:
West Ferry are high users of energy and as such were heavily affected by the government's Climate Change Levy (CCL). Inenco were appointed with the task of reducing costs, improving energy efficiency, and minimising the financial impact of the levy.

Inenco's team of highly skilled engineers and consultants recommended a 3 year energy management programme that would enable us to:

  • Identify opportunities to obtain CCL discounts.

  • Implement a robust monitoring and reporting model.

  • Project manage innovative energy efficiency initiatives throughout the business with the aim of achieving substantial financial benefits.

Whilst this comprehensive energy management plan required a capital investment, Inenco were able to predict savings that would more than cover this cost, resulting in a significant overall profit and lower energy costs year-on-year.

West Ferry Printers benefited from significant financial savings, including a CCL discount amounting to over £84,000 per annum. Further to this, energy savings of £180,000 per annum were identified, equating to reduced carbon emissions of 3,079 tonnes each year.

Further to the success of this energy management programme, West Ferry Printers awarded Inenco the contract to procure all utilities for the company.
