Dave Cockshott CCO at Inenco, has issued the following statement further to the extension of the enforcement of ESOS compliance issued by the Environment Agency (EA) yesterday:
“Whilst demonstrating the right sentiment, the extension to the enforcement penalties against ESOS compliance doesn’t go far enough to alleviate the pressure faced by the industry. Given the extension is only until 29th January, with Christmas shutdowns and busy trading periods for those not closed, it is in effect only a 4 week extension. This is insufficient to address the backlog of companies still requiring an audit. At present only 150 businesses are fully ESOS compliant and Lead Assessors are being asked to take on work that they cannot deliver.
“We started early at Inenco and whilst the momentum is now there, customers initially found the new legislation difficult to understand and underestimated the time needed to complete. This has meant that many businesses have now run into issues on the deadline. I simply cannot see how such a short extension on the enforcement of compliance assessments will enable the sheer volume of businesses whose audits remain outstanding to complete on time”.
